Getting a Good Wife Shipped to You

Inside the Mail Order Bride Industry - Part II

From Russia to Ethiopia, Manila to São Paulo, people just looking to make a buck are looking for a way to market women. The mail order bride industry is it.

Mail Order Bride Warehouses

While the Philippines seems to be the heartbeat of the mail order bride industry, other countries are beginning to muscle on the trade in female flesh.

Anyone interested in finding a mail order bride should be sure to look at GoodWife.com, which also refers to itself as "The Mail Order Bride Warehouse". The site serves as a reference page for finding a mail order bride service to suit your needs.

Paying a few dollars for an address and writing directly to a girl in the Philippines who speaks some English probably isn't that horrible a thing to do if you're a single guy with nothing else to do with your time.

Scams?

When your money goes for services provided by the company that gave you the address, things get murkier. How do you know that the girl ever got the flowers or chocolate you bought for her online? Maybe she gets the flowers, maybe she gets half of what you spent in cash and the other half goes to the company, or maybe she gets a buck-fifty and the company keeps the rest.

If you're paying a dating/introduction service for translation services as well, what do you know about the quality of the translation?

Everyone on the other end of your Internet connection is going to view you as something in between a sugar daddy to be milked and a hog to be slaughtered. It is hard to tell the extent to which you're being scammed.

Attending socials or introduction dances (arranged at a hefty fee) for you and 10 desperate women in an impoverished setting blurs the line between prostitution and whatever nicer name you might be inclined to put on such a situation. Ultimately, it comes down to you, as a financially well off man (by most international standards) with some degree of power in the situation and lots of options in life, being entertained by a group of impoverished young women who hope to benefit financially from being in your presence and pleasing you. Whatever else that is, it is probably prostitution; and the women are involved in it because they feel their choices in life are limited. That may not make it okay for them; but, it makes it worse for you.

Human Trafficking

Maybe there are some happy endings to some of the mail order bride stories. And when the ending isn't a fairytale, maybe something approaching slavery in Canada, Korea, or New Zealand still really is better for a girl than freedom in Thailand, the Philippines, or Ethiopia. But I suspect that the majority of the time, mail order bride arrangements are either scams designed to get a man's money or, worse, simple international trafficking in women.
